Christ the pleasing sacrifice.
Christ was the willing, pleasing, and complete sacrifice for humanity.

We look at Hebrews 10:5-10 and continue examining at the idea of sacrifices, but we expand our understanding to ask, What kind of sacrifices does God desire and delight in? The text pushes us towards the reality that the sacrifices of the Old Covenant were only temporary and that God's ultimate desire was a permanent sacrifice to redeem people to himself.

We are reminded that this sacrifice was completed in the person of Jesus Christ. His life, death, and resurrection, for the redemption of his people. Once we see how Christ fulfills God's desired sacrifice, we can ask, What kind of sacrifice does God ask of us? He asks us to give our whole selves, and we do this through prayer and trusting him with our entire selves.

Reflection questions:

  1. Take honest stock of the sacrifices that you make in your life. What category do they fall into?

  2. Summarize the sacrifice that Christ has made for you.

  3. Are there hopes, dreams, fears, worries, or other parts of you holding you back from God? Take time this week to offer those to him. What is he calling you to?
