The Great Cost of Rebellion

In Hebrews 2:1-4, the author gives us a sobering reminder of the great cost of rebellion. As we move into chapter two, we move from seeing Christ's supremacy over angels and all of creation and why that's important.

In the first part of the author's argument, he shows how the law was reliable and delivered by the angels. The law revealed that there was a just retribution for all sins. From other readings, we know that the wages of sin is death. Once the author establishes this truth, he moves to focus on Christ.

His question: how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? Ties the chapter together. It points to how Christ has taken the just retribution for our sins and reminds us of the cost of rebellion against God. Through this, we can see how it is through Christ alone that we find lasting freedom from our sins.
