Though the world rejects Christ, we are a part of the hall of faith because of Christ's completed work in us.
Though the world may reject us, we join the hall of faith because of Christ's work in us.

Throughout the 11th chapter of the Book of Hebrews, we've seen how God faithfully works through His people. This week, the author picks up speed and, in a rapid yet poetic movement, gives his final examples. It is notable that while the people are featured, the author has left no doubt that it is to God's glory that all this is done.

Like Christ, who came into the world and was the light of the world but was rejected by the world, the world rejects God's people. We are therefore encouraged to persevere, whether we suffer for the sake of the gospel or enjoy prosperity, the resurrection promised in Christ will be infinitely better than any joy or suffering we will experience in this life. So, we are encouraged to persevere. We hold to the hope of the resurrection because it has already been secured for us.

Reflection questions:

  1. What do the Old Testament saints teach us?

  2. How do we become weak so that God's strength may be in us?

  3. How has Hebrews 11 encouraged you?
