In this sermon, we looked at Hebrews 11:8-19. This section reflected on the life of Abraham, the father of the Hebrews. The author isolated three events from the patriarch's and his wife's lives. The first was the calling out of his homeland of Haran and into the promise land, the second was Sarah holding on to the promise to bear a child, and the final was Abraham's almost sacrifice of his son Isaac. In each of these, we see Abraham holding on to the promise that God made to him, even when he could not see what God was going to do in that.
It is clear why the author chose to spend as much time on Abraham as he does. He is incredibly relatable, but also points towards our call as Christians to live obediently by faith, trusting that one day we will see the culmination of the far country, that is, the heavenly kingdom. Abraham shows us what it is like to walk faithfully with God when we know what he has promised is already secured.
