A part of the reason we must wait is that God's plan of salvation is not yet complete.
The whole community waits for God to act.

In this sermon on Hebrews 11:39-40, Daniel examines the final two sentences that close out chapter 11 and the author's reflection on the faith of the Old Testament saints. We had seen how they persevered through much, yet they did not receive what they were promised.

This wasn't because God wasn't going to give the promise to them but because the whole plan of salvation is not yet complete. With the saints of old, we are still waiting. One of the most important parts that Daniel pointed out, is this aspect of with, in our waiting, it isn't just me waiting by myself, or you waiting by yourself, but we wait with a community, and we wait with all those who came before us.

It is profoundly hopeful that we don't have to wait alone, but that we have the whole church that waits with us, prays with us, and encourages us until Christ's return.
