When you think of something powerful what do you think of? We are reminded that God is more powerful than a roaring lion.
God is more powerful than a roaring lion.

In this sermon, we examine the faith of the Hebrews as they entered the Exodus and then entered the Promised Land, as well as one of the most surprising individuals in "the hall of Faith," Rahab. We notice in this section that God's power and might are on full display. But perhaps what is most surprising is that right alongside these displays was an act of mercy.

One of the reasons the author gives us to have faith is that God is both powerful and mighty, while He is also merciful to those who put their trust in Him. This is incredibly hope-filled when we see the craziness of the world that we live in. We are reminded that there is nothing more powerful than God, and therefore, he is worthy of our trust.

Reflection questions:

  1. List the things of this world that you conceive as powerful.

  2. What are the ramifications of the reality that God is more powerful than these?

  3. How does it make you feel that God is powerful, but also extends mercy to you?
